THE WEAKLY 068

The Weakly number sixty eight.

Welcome friends, foes and people with ugly toes.

I am finally back home after a bit over two weeks of production on Tenerife, Spain.
There really was not much else to do besides work, spotty internet did not even let me enjoy a lot of stuff to watch or anything, plus I will write about the trip at another time and maybe even show you some of the photos I shot.
For now some random shots from the trip as our weekly photo post.

Well, as I just got back Thursday night, there was not much else going on, but we had to start with Fallout as soon as possible. Already had FOMO for a whole week or something and dodging Spoilers left and right. So we actually went through the whole Season in one sitting and it was glorious. I have heard a bunch of people whining about the whole Season dropping at once and to that I can only say… whatever. I really do not mind that at all. There is sooo much to watch that I actually do not mind finishing something and moving on to something else instead of back and forth for month. People always need something to whine about…
I also have heard a few pople whine about Fallout story wise, but honestly, this is one of the best Video Game adaptations in any form for sure. Plus it is very true to the world and lore of the Fallout games. Is it 100% true? No, but that is just silly to expect when stuff gets adapted. I for one, as someone who has played and finished every single Fallout game, besides New Vegas (still need to finish that one… actually will restart it soon), loved it. Really can’t wait for the second season. The tone of it all is so so true to the games, it even was able to really take me out of the regular watching a show mode and give me the feeling of the in-game experience. I will for sure get back to the show and re-watch it soon.
Besides Fallout we started watching Sugar on Apple TV+, the most underrated and overlooked streaming service. And they delivered again. The Season is not finished yet, we have not watched the latest episode, but I am loving it so far. Colin Farrell, modern P.I. story in Los Angeles, he drives a beautiful C2 Corvette, a tough cookie with a heart of gold and a dark-ish past we still a learning about. A great recipe for my attention.
Aaaaaaand finally it was time to watch the very hyped up, long awaited and often pushed back super duper mega movie of the century. REBEL MOON : PART TWO. No.. joking, we get to that right after we talk about Dune : Part 2. The most overhyped piece of wonderfully shot and produced of modern cinema history. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying it’s a bad movie or not great or anything, but I am far from thinking it is the messiah of movies or movie making. Pun intended. My main gripe, besides the constant overhyping from every corner really is about pacing. As the first one it just drags along for way too long in parts that really do not add anything but playtime. I really think part I & II should have been one film. one three hour epos that just bangs and rips and leaves you stunned. This is way to mellow and slow for what it is with the focus on quite unimportant details, while jumping through time kinda randomly to finally push the story along. As you know I normally do not like to critique movies a lot or at all, but the hype has been so big and the I really hate those antics directors like Villeneuve and for example Nolan have. You have to experience the movies the way they think is right, you have to go and watch it in the cinema and bla bla bla bla… fuck that and them. I will watch their work I want to. One of the main reasons I do not go to the cinema anymore here in Cologne. The cinemas actually suck. Thats besides the point. Also his BS he was talking about while COVID was raging and all that stuff just did not sit right with me, that all combined with a kinda unnecessarily long film, two actually, makes me wonder where all that perfectionism actually lands. Look, I love his vision, I love the little adjustments to a more modern take to Herberts original. I love everyone involved in these films, but lets not make it into something it isn’t… perfect. Enjoyable, beautiful and I am looking forward to his take on Dune Messiah, but I am still more excited about a lot of other movies coming in the next few years.
As just mentioned we also watched Rebel Moon : Part Two and look.., if you enjoyed the first one, you will enjoy this one as well. I did. it is a very different beast than Dune for example, but funny enough from a, in my opinion, equally visually strong director. That is the other thing right… With the over 300 million Dollars budget for the two Dune movies, I expect a certain amount of excellence. You better make something epic. Rebel Moon comes in at half that and for that it is epic as well. “Quality” or whatever in the writing is maybe different, but it also is Snyder versus Herbert… and not Villeneuve. I mean its not really anyone against anything… besides silly fans and critics, but you know what I mean. The last thing I wanna say here is, that the crazy ass difference we make between for example a Dune, which is regarded as high class cinema from serious filmmakers and so on and for example Avengers Endgame is just this silly dumb comic book movie that is made to destroy cinema by people who are not capable of anything else is laughable. Just laughable. I mean yeah lets be artsy and let Scorsese make ANOTHER fucking movie with Leo in the same tone as ever and there is nothing boring about that.

Last but not least again your weekly reminder that I have a fresh new Patreon Page and have been posting some fun stuff up there and so much more cool things coming up. Including some nice announcements and first dibs on some new Art pieces I am releasing soon. And very heartfelt thank you to all the people and especially friends that already signed up to support me, the new people that signed up this week as well. It really means a ton and gets me super pumped for all the fun stuff thats coming up.

Have a beautiful Sunday and…
stay safe out there, be kind, to others, to yourself.
T.
